Kevin Roche
Chief Executive Officer
As the result of a nationwide search, Kevin joined ecomaine in 2004 and serves as CEO & General Manager. He has worked in the field of solid waste management since 1990, soon after the first sightings of the “garbarge” (garbage barge). His experience has moved him across the country including positions as the Director of Solid Waste for Broome County (New York), Materials Recovery Manager for the City of Glendale (Arizona), Plant Manager for Metro Waste, Owner of a recycling facility in Rochester, New York, Solid Waste Coordinator for Monroe County, and GIS Specialist for the City of Rochester. Kevin is a 1989 graduate of the University of Buffalo, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography. He entered the field of solid waste with passion for integrating the mapping of trash collection routes into Geographic Information Systems. At ecomaine, Kevin’s priority is to advance the organization’s mission in providing comprehensive long-term solid waste solutions in a safe, environmentally responsible, economically sound manner and remain a leader in raising public awareness of sustainable solid waste management strategies. Outside of work, Kevin enjoys spending time with his family, wood-working, rooting for the Bills, and on the back of a horse.
Denise Mungen
Executive Assistant
Denise Mungen joined ecomaine in September of 2014 with 30-plus years of experience in executive-level administrative support. Throughout her career, she has supported Presidents, the Vice President and Chairman of Academic Affairs. She has managed programs for the Aegis Destroyer Program and USN Department of Defense for the Personnel and Informational Security Program. She also worked on the start-up and management of a community prescription assistance program, providing coordination and support to community physicians for uninsured and underserved patients with chronic medical conditions. She has served on or supported several boards and committees, including the United Way of Mid Coast Maine, St. John’s Catholic Parish, and The Healthy Start Program. She attended New York City Community College and College of New Rochelle, and completed further coursework through University of Southern Maine’s Professional Development Program.

Kathryn Oak
Business Development Representative
Kathryn returned to ecomaine as Recycling Manager in January 2020. Kathryn began her career in the solid waste industry 30 years ago at ecomaine, and has since acquired an Associate’s Degree in Environmental Technologies and a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Science, in addition to attending the world renowned Compost School. Kathryn has managed solid waste facilities ranging from transfer stations and construction and demolition debris landfills to municipal composting programs, and, most recently, the City of Portland’s Solid Waste Division. An avid hiker, a member of the Solid Waste Association of North America and a Board member for the Maine Resource Recovery Association, she is a resident of Mechanic Falls and mother of a teenaged son.

Kelly Rickett joined ecomaine as a Payroll/Accounting clerk in May 2019 with over 20 years experience in Payroll, HR and Accounting in the manufacturing field. She joins ecomaine from B&M Baked Beans where she most recently served as an HR Supervisor, Payroll and Accounts Payable Clerk.

Lynn Michaels
Accounts Payable and Human Resources Specialist
Lynn, who has been with ecomaine since 2016, is responsible for ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of Accounts Payable and Human Resources. Lynn holds an Associate’s Degree in Accounting from York County Community College. Her work experience includes being assistant to the Vice President of Accounts Payable and Receivable for Coastal Concrete and working in Accounts Payable for Tom’s of Maine. She has also owned her own tanning & hair salon and cleaning business.
Mark Dolloff
Project/Procurement Manager
Mark currently serves as ecomaine’s Project & Procurement Manager, managing projects from inception to completion. Formerly, Mark was responsible for employee safety training, which occurs weekly at ecomaine. He is an OSHA certified trainer for general industry, a licensed Maine first class stationary engineer, and an ASME qualified resource operator. In addition, Mark graduated from Central Maine Technical College in 1984 with an Associate Degree in power engineering. He has been with ecomaine since 1988.
Wei Po Huang
Finance Manager
Wei has been with ecomaine since November of 2014 and has been promoted along the way to Finance Manager from Accountant II and his previous position of Accounting Assistant before that. Wei is responsible for Payroll, Accounts Receivable, interfacing with systems and phone support providers, financial closings, and banking coordination. He is a graduate of the University of Southern Maine, where he was an accounting tutor, with a degree in Accounting & Business Administration. He has a strong background in computer software, is a native of Taiwan and is now a US citizen.

After working as a Marine Engineer in the offshore oil industry for over 15 years, Mark Googins has stepped into the role of Maintenance Supervior at ecomaine. Googins graduated from Maine Maritime Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering Technology, and brings with him a wealth of knowledge about the field.

Brian Del Camp
Shift Supervisor
Brian graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in marine engineering and a minor in nuclear engineering. He joined ecomaine after seven years of engineering experience and has been with ecomaine since 1988. Brian is a certified ASME qualified resource recovery facility operator/shift supervisor and is licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard as a 1st class assistant engineer for steam and 2nd class engineer for motor vessels (unlimited horsepower).

Kevin is a 1986 graduate of Maine Maritime Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in marine engineering operations. He is also an ASME qualified chief/operator. Kevin came to ecomaine in 1987 after employment at a biomass generation facility in Lewiston. He is responsible for overall operation and maintenance of the ecomaine waste-to-energy plant and is a key participant in the senior management team.

Matthew Baum
Assistant Plant Manager
Matthew Baum joined ecomaine as our Maintenance Manager in September 2018 and moved into the Assistant Plant Manager role in May of 2021. Matt is a graduate from Maine Maritime Academy and holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Power Engineering Technology and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration. He also holds a Maine Boilers License and is certified in Six Sigma-Lean. He joined ecomaine from Westbrook Energy Center (WEC) Calpine where he most recently served as Operations Engineer and was the lead on many special projects.

Tom joined ecomaine in 2016 and has more than 10 years’ experience in biomass and waste-to-energy facilities. In 2021, Tom was promoted from Control Room Operator to Shift Supervisor. He is a 2011 graduate of Maine Martime Academy, and holds a First Class Stationary Steam License in the State of Maine as well as his ASME QRO Provisional License.

Anne Hewes
Environmental Manager
Since 2007, Dr. Hewes has been responsible for ecomaine‘s continuous improvement in environmental protection at the waste-to-energy plant, recycling facility and ashfill/landfill. She has over 30 years of experience between geological/environmental consulting and academic research, with a B.A. in Geology, M.S. in Environmental Science & Management, and Ph.D. in Environmental Studies. Her interests range from air pollution controls to a focus on industrial ecology and the reuse of waste materials. She has been a delegate to the United Nations Conferences for Sustainability in Johannesburg, South Africa (WSSD) in 2002 and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Rio+20) in 2012.

Mark joined ecomaine in 2008 with 23 years consulting experience in environmental toxicology (human health and ecological risk assessment), environmental chemistry and regulatory compliance. As a technical consultant his work has included waste-to-energy facilities, paper companies, hazardous waste sites, and landfill investigations. In addition to environmental responsibilities, Mark is part of a team that administers ecomaine‘s health and safety management system. He holds a BS in Ecology and Environmental Sciences from the University of Maine (Orono) and has pursued classes in chemical engineering from Northeastern University (Boston).

Jamie Garvin
Director of Communications and Public Affairs
Jamie joined ecomaine as Director of Communications and Public Affairs in January 2024, bringing more than 20 years of experience in marketing, communications, and organizational leadership to our team. He previously worked at some of Maine’s most well-known companies like L.L.Bean, IDEXX, TD Bank, and WEX to help them develop and execute programs and campaigns that drove meaningful results by using data and insights, fostering powerful creative ideas, and tracking and optimizing activities to deliver measurable performance and impact.
In addition to his professional experience, he has also been very active in the areas of public policy, community and economic development, affordable housing, and sustainability. Jamie was a twice-elected town councilor in Cape Elizabeth, Maine (serving three times as chairman), and a member of multiple regional and state-wide committees. In his capacity as an elected official of a member-owner community, Jamie served on the ecomaine’s board of directors for six years. In that time, he was a member of both the Communications and Outreach Committee and Executive Committee, helping to advance the mission and vision of the organization and contributing to the achievement many of our goals and objectives.
Jamie has engaged his passion for sustainability in many ways, including as a member of the Cape Elizabeth Recycling Committee (which was a recipient of an ecomaine Eco-Excellence Award), as well as serving on his town’s Solid Waste and Recycling Long Range Planning Committee that developed the recommendation for the upgraded Cape Elizabeth Transfer Station design implemented in 2016. He is also an avid at-home composter, which he has demonstrated at multiple ecomaine ecofest events.

Bea joined Ecomaine as an Environmental Educator in July of 2023. Bea has been working in environmental sustainability since she graduated from the University of Maine with a B.S. in Ecology and Environmental Sciences with a minor in Political Science. Throughout her studies at the University of Maine in Orono she concentrated in sustainability, environmental policy and natural resource management, and worked as a teaching assistant in environmental geology and biology. She also spent time working as a research assistant, working on sustainable aquaculture growth along the coast of Maine, her home state. Bea worked as the sustainability coordinator for sugarloaf where she led the Sugarloaf Area Sustainability Initiative, implemented a successful community recycling station, maintained the community compost facility, managed GHG accounting for the ski resort and guided the mountain to their net-zero by 2030 goals.
Bea has a passion for both teaching and the environment and has found her place in educating communities on sustainable waste management. She loves to spread the word and see people begin to make simple steps to reduce their carbon footprint and better the future of the world. When Bea is not out educating the community about Ecomaine, you will find her outside in the woods or on the ocean where she finds herself the most at home. She loves sailing her boat (saved from the landfill and rebuilt!) in Pemaquid ME, swimming in whatever water she can find, hiking with her dogs, or skiing the slopes.
Abigail Hart
Digital and Social Media Specialist
Abigail Hart joined ecomaine in 2023 as the Digital and Social Media Specialist. Graduating from Suffolk University in 2023, she brings with her experience in digital marketing with other non-profits such as Boston Women’s Fund, as well as managing social media for DePasquale Ventures in the North End of Boston. Her passion for sustainability is what inspired her to get involved with sustainable waste management at ecomaine and help inspire and empower others in her community to reduce their own waste.
