Applications Open for ecomaine’s School Grant Program to Promote Environmental Education and Sustainability Initiatives
PORTLAND, MAINE – March 25, 2004 – ecomaine, Maine’s leader in recycling and sustainable waste management solutions, is once again seeking applications for its School Grant Program. This initiative aims to support and inspire environmental education and sustainability initiatives in schools across our region.
The School Grant Program provides financial assistance to K-12 schools in any ecomaine member community seeking to implement innovative projects that promote environmental awareness, waste reduction, recycling, and sustainability. Individual grants of up to $5,000, from a total of $30,000, will be awarded to selected schools based on the merit and impact of their proposed projects.
“We are excited to open up the ecomaine School Grant Program as part of our ongoing commitment to environmental education and community engagement,” said Jamie Garvin, Director of Communications and Public Affairs at ecomaine. “By supporting schools in their efforts to promote sustainability and environmental stewardship, we hope to empower the next generation of environmental leaders and foster a culture of sustainability in our community.”
Schools interested in applying for the ecomaine School Grant Program are encouraged to submit their project proposals by May 17, 2024. Eligible projects may include, but are not limited to:
Implementation of recycling and composting programs
Development of environmental education curriculum and materials
Installation of energy-efficient or water-saving infrastructure
Creation of school gardens or outdoor learning spaces
Initiatives to reduce single-use plastics and promote waste reduction
Applications will be evaluated based on criteria such as creativity, feasibility, educational value, and potential impact on the school and community. Grant recipients will be selected by a panel of judges comprised of ecomaine representatives and community stakeholders.
