We at ecomaine pride ourselves on our education, outreach, and increasing awareness of sustainable waste management strategies. This week has been full of highlights of such activities, and I’m pleased to share a few of them with you here.
Wednesday morning brought a virtual tour of ecomaine’s Recycling and Waste-to-Energy facilities to 40 members of the Northeast Resource Recovery Association. Typically, the NRRA does a bus tour for its members, but the pandemic has forced it online, where Kevin Roche, Vanessa Berry, and I gave an overview of our operations, markets, and processes. (Unfortunately not recorded!)
Wednesday mid-day saw Vanessa jump from one virtual tour to another, this time for the Natural Resources Council of Maine! This was the latest in a series of virtual tours ecomaine has conducted for NRCM members, and the interest has continued to be very strong. You can view that virtual tour here.
Wednesday afternoon, Kevin Roche joined a Safety Chat put on by the Solid Waste Association of North America, discussing the value of collaboration on media stories in our industry. This followed multiple stories about collection workers in Maine suffering chemical burns due to improper disposal of hydrochloric acid. Kevin’s portion of the Safety Chat can be heard here:
And then on Thursday, Vanessa Berry led yet another virtual tour for the Maine Ladies Adventure Club, where 20 members learned more about where “away” is when they throw things away!
These are just a handful of the educational opportunities ecomaine offers – please be in touch any time to schedule one in your community or for your own network!
